Description

Hello,
I am trying to get my MacBook to run Chirp.

Mine is a Macbook Air running OS 10.8.5.

I have downloaded and installed KK7DS Python Runtime, and then downloaded chirp. I reinstalled because I don't think I left enough time for Python to download. When I click on the installer package it flashes like it's doing something but I don't see anything happening. Same for CHIRP installer.

Also I tried clicking [Create and Continue] below and nothing happened. So, I'm writing this again, a week later.

Anthony N2XIF helped by reminding me to unlock preferences and change settings to allow Downloads from Anywhere. I did that and downloaded again the Python runtime. Still flashes like it's opening, yet I see no unpacking into my list of Applications. Is it the Mac?

I got the Python to install by dragging it over to the Applications folder and it ended up in the Utilities section all by itself. I had also downloaded Prolific's PL2303 Mac OS X Driver Download. (http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=229&pcid=41)

http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php gave me some tips.

So, I've progressed in that CHIRP is now on my Macbook Air 10.8.5 and I can click to download from Radio, but even though I have tried two cables, (the one that came with the radio and a FTDI Chip cable "Kenwood USB KPG-22 FTDI" recommended when I got the radio) I got the error that the radio is "not responding."

Drivers for the FTDI are at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm, but Mac only goes up to 10.7, which also has "Procedure for Adding Support for New FTDI Devices to Mac Driver", but I am not a geek.

BTW, kc9hi has a spreadsheet http://kc9hi.dyndns.org/uv5r/programming/CHIRP%20Guide.pdf

So, for now it's back to hand entering the frequencies.

For Mountain Lion 10.8, you should be able to use the FTDI OEM 2.2.18 drivers (even though it only says 10.7):
http://www.ftdichip.com/drivers/VCP/MacOSX/FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_2_18.dmg

For Mavericks, OSX has built in FTDI driver now.

For your other cable, what chipset is it?
If it is prolific pl-2303 see here:
